Vivian Girls - Everything Goes Wrong

New album from the all-girl trio hailing from Brooklyn, NY. It's more of the same post-punk/power-pop tunes from their first album, but still rather solid. If this doesn't sound very interesting to you, give it a listen anyway. All the hipster chicks on their fixies will suddenly want your company.

Lifetime - Jersey's Best Dancers

Classic album from that whole pop-punk/hardcore revolution in the 90's.

The Replacements - Let it Be

Pitchfork loves this album, and surprise! It's actually really, really fucking good.

The Ergs! - Dorkrockcorkrod

If you somehow haven't heard this album, get it now. This album is more of a straight forward pop-punk album, as opposed to Upstairs/Downstairs.

The Ergs! - Upstairs/Downstairs

It took me a while, but a few months ago I finally "got" The Ergs!. I had initially heard the hype about them around a year ago, but I had only listened to "Hindsight is 20/20, My Friend" which really didn't do it for me at the time. Then a while back, I got this album from another blog and seriously haven't listened to much else since.

Upstairs/Downstairs is usually shadowed by their first full-length, "dorkrockcorkrod" (which I'll post shortly), even though both albums are pretty different musically, imo. As a straight-up, pop-punk album, "dorkrockcorkrod" is definitely better, but "Upstairs/Downstairs" shows a slightly more mature version of The Ergs! nerdy, almost Replacements-esque brand of pop-punk. Standout tracks include "See Him Again", "Books About Miles Davis", and "Fluorescent Stars", the first of which is among my top 5 songs by The Ergs!.

Dangers - Messy, Isn't It?

Fire Team Charlie - Fire Team Charlie

Awesome screamo/post-hardcore somewhat similar to The Kidcrash. Make sure to check out their contribution to the split they did with End of A Year as well.

Battalion of Saints - The Second Coming

Possibly one of the most underrated hardcore albums to come out of the 80's. This was released in 1984 and includes a cover of "Ace of Spades" (Motorhead). Someone's been real busy and uploaded almost every track off Death R Us, a compilation, on youtube, so check it out if you're still unsure. One of my personal favorites followed by the title track of the LP:
